Facebook users are eagerly waiting for the much announced timeline by Facebook promoters. The timeline enables users to post their life story right from their birth date to the current date. In essence, the timeline exposes your biography to the full possible extent. Ever since the new timeline was announced by Facebook last month, hot debates are going on in tech world with all the guess works on how the user’s profile appears in the changed layout. As per the latest information, users might want to wait till 19th October, 2011 to find their new timeline which enables to add, delete, star and hide the items they want.

It is likely that the new timeline will go live at a set point of time but not immediately after the user opts for the new timeline’s setup. It is understood that Facebook’s new timeline is getting delayed because of the legal battle with Timelines.com and it is perceived that Facebook will launch the new timeline in a phased manner rather than giving access to all at the same time. On the other hand, Facebook might want to deliver the version with least trouble to all kinds of users. It may not be a difficult time to manage the mismatches by tech savvy people, but the same cannot be attained with the majority of general public. Hence, Facebook simply needs more time to launch its refined timeline version. The new timeline is expected to transform the present version of user profile drastically. Addition of a cover photo on top of the page is the most prominent feature of the coming new timeline.

The advantage with the new timeline lies in its ability to view all the information present on the profile. You will be able to present important milestones in your life by including your family members in a more dynamic way and adding birth dates and other important dates and can include those memorable occasions along with photos. The new timeline lets you showcase your educational, professional and other prominent achievements in your life. As you revisit these timelines after a certain period of time, you will be able to view information like “this day, five years ago“.

While enjoying the benefits of new timeline, it is required to take steps so that you will keep off the information which is not relevant to the current times or which can cause negative impact on your personality. You should be more vigilant with your privacy settings as your private life should not proliferate into public circles. As Facebook summarizes the old posts on a regular basis, your old but prominent story may not be visible all the time unless users check on “see all stories from the year” or “see all stories from the month“.

Those who have developmental background and who cannot wait until Facebook’s official launch of timeline can opt for Facebook’s developer access. In order to get the developer access, the account should be verified through mobile number or credit card. And, those who do not want to share their personal information just for the cause of gaining beta access to Facebook’s timeline can wait till the official launch expected in the coming weeks by Facebook.

It will be interesting to find how Facebook’s new timeline will be in line with the recent tightening of privacy settings just in response to the much hype created by Google plus boasting of safeguarding user’s integrity.
