Have received notification that Skyway Software, a US-based developer who considers India “a leading force in software development�, is running an international developer contest, the SkywayCup 2008, where winners can get cash prizes of $25,000 for the first place. Skyway is inviting Indian developers to create contest submissions using their flagship product, Skyway Builder, to create new working applications, or develop extensions to Skyway Builder. It is interesting to see a company with an open source commitment, and one that is a part of the Eclipse foundation, actively reaching out to the developer community world-over.

Skyway Software defines Skyway Builder thus: “Skyway Builder is an open-source, model-centric JEE application development and deployment tool for delivering RIAs and Web Services to the Spring Framework. Unlike any other development tool, Skyway Builder provides comprehensive modeling capabilities at three distinct application layers (Web/UI layer, service layer, and data layer) and fully functional solutions may be delivered easily to a wide variety of open-source and commercial infrastructures.�

The deadline for submissions to the contest is 31st August 2008. I would recommend getting in on the discussions and download the software from www.skywayperspectives.org
